The Oi and her sister
the Kitakami were both converted to heavy torpedo cruisers and
at the zeith of her torpedo armament the Oi had 40 tubes (20 to
a side)! This alone was the reason I bought her. We all know that
she probably never fired her tubes in anger, but one can only image
what might have been had the Oi or Kitakami or both been at the
Second battle of Guadalcanal!
As always you pay more for a Sky Wave model, but the detail is astounding!
The hull is represented accurately (to my knowledge) and all other
features are represented accurately as well. I have the Natori by
Tamiya and anyone who has compared these two makers products in
the box will probably note that the Sky Wave seems "denser".
I can't really expain it, but even when you hold the hull of the
Oi the actual plastic seems of better quality, more dense but easier
to cut and sand if need be. I don't know... maybe it's just the
cream colour of the plastic, but it sure has me beleiveing it!
back from time to time for when I actually build her.
