A Brief History: Part
of the Takao class of heavy cruisers all four served with distinction
until their... well... extinction. Modernized more then the Chokai
during her career she also retained all 5 twin 8" mounts. She
along with most of her class was sunk, or heavily damaged, by torpedoes
from the American submarines Dace and Darter while en route to the
IJNs last large scale showing in the Pacific War. Only the Chokai
survived the torpedo attack that day unscathed and she was sunk
two days later.
This model is quite dated, but not bad considering.
I'm not sure of the models accuracy in layout, but expect some modification
would have to be made in light of research on this class since this
Overall this model gets a 7 out of 10. There is alot of flash on
the smaller parts, and the deck could use more detail, and there
is no detail on the 8" mount barbettes, but the main pieces
are cleanly defined when compared to a Hasegawa of this same time
period. I have the BCV Ise from Hasegawa (old mold) and the smaller
caliber weapons on the Mini Craft model are far better.
